Department of Chemical Sciences

(i)  CHEMISTRY (B. Sc. Degree, Duration: 4 years)

Requirements: Candidates must in addition to Faculty requirements possess credit passes in Chemistry, and any two (2) other Science subjects from Biology, Physics, Agricultural science, Technical drawing or Geography.
Description: The study of Chemistry investigates the composition, structure, properties and change of matter resulting from interactions between substances through chemical reactions. Chemistry is often called the central science because it bridges other natural sciences like physics, biology and geology. Chemistry syllabus though encompasses traditional areas of analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry; has several major sub-disciplines and several cross-disciplinary fields which students will be exposed to.
Students will be comfortable on graduation working in various establishments such as Pharmaceutical and Chemical manufacturing industries, Forensic analysis, as Analytical and Environmental Chemists, Research and Development Units in chemical and allied industries as well as Research institutes.

(ii)  INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY (B. Sc. Degree; Duration: 4 years)

Requirements: Candidates must in addition to Faculty requirements possess credit passes in, Chemistry and any two (2) other Science subjects from Physics, Agricultural Science, Technical drawing or Geography.
Description: Industrial Chemistry is the branch of chemistry which studies the physical and chemical transmutation of raw materials into everyday products that will promote good living by the citizenry and benefit mankind. The students will be given a very solid foundation in the fundamentals of Chemistry before exposure to industrial processes. Graduates of Industrial chemistry will be proficient and find employment in chemical engineering processing, economics and industrial management and versed in application of chemical knowledge to a range of industrial enterprises such as pharmaceutical, petrochemical, paints, dyes, textiles, insecticides, food and biochemical industries.
